Lily Family
This early blooming lily is native to western North America, where it grows from southwestern British Columbia to northern California. These plants are often found in large clumps and prefer open woods, forest edges and stream banks at low elevations.
The nodding [1] flower appears at the top of a smooth leafless stem. The plant has two large, dark green eliptical leaves that are beautifully patterned.
Bears have been known to eat the entire plant. [2]
