Western Trillium
Western Trillium
(Western Wake Robin)
Trillium ovatum
Lily Family
This beautiful perennial blooms in early spring, when the Robin arrives, as one of its common names, Wake Robin, implies. Native to the area, the Western Trillium is found in cool, rich soil in lowlands of moist, coniferous and mixed forests.
The unmistakable white flower grows on a short stalk from the centre of a whorl of three large triangular leaves. As the flower ages the white pedals fade to rose and then to purple.
Trillium plants are very long lived and can take as long as 10 years to flower from seed.
