These native annual herbs bloom in early spring. They grow on mossy outcrops, open slopes and grassy areas at all elevations.

The flowers are very small and have two lips. The upper lip has two lobes that are purplish blue to white. The lower lip has three lobes that are deep purplish blue.

There are many leaves; narrowly egg-shaped to linear with rounded points.
