Foxglove

Foxglove
Digitalis purpurea
Figwort family

Foxglove is a European import. This medicinal plant contains cardiac glycosides that are extracted somehow and used in medications today helping hundreds of thousands of people with heart disease.

It’s highly poisonous, so don’t think you can help your heart yourself by chomping on this plant.

The common name comes from an old tale where foxes used the flowers to cover their paws, so they could make a silent approach to the chicken coop.
